What's up on Darkly Reading? - Need Some Birthday Book Recommendations!

I thought I would give you guys a heads-up for up-coming events on Darkly Reading over the next two weeks - first off I will have the lovely Chloe Neill, the author of one of my favorite vampire series, Chicagoland vampires, coming by to do an interview on the 17th and reviews of Some Girls Bite and Friday Nights Bite (books I just re-read this weekend) coming up on Wednesday. The new book in the series - Twice Bitten - is coming out on July 6th and I am so excited. Perhaps I am so excited because this book combines a graduate student (which I am) going from book worm to kick-ass (I'm still waiting for that transition to happen) and one of my favorite cities - Chicago. Stay tuned for more about this series (and Ethan) and the secrets on Merit's chocolate drawer later this week.

Also, I'm having a birthday next week and to celebrate I'm having a giveaway/contest. The contest is called my Favorite Firsts contests and I will be hosting authors and book bloggers on my site and we'll be talking about our favorites or our firsts (all referring to books of course) as well as having a giveaway. To get things rolling I wanted to ask for book recommendations for books I should get myself for my birthday - are there any books you think I would love and suggest I run out now and buy - let me know! And next week will be the vote for what I should get for my birthday! So start those suggestions!

Where should I start?

If you ahven't read any of these, you should, they are amazing!

- Women of the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong
- Touched by an Alien by Gini Koch
- Master of None by Sonya BAteman
- Embers by Laura Bickle
- Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole
- Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs
- Alpha&Omega series by Patricia Briggs

These were the ones that came to my mind right now.

@Tara - I've been wanting to read Demon in Me - great pick! I've already read Halfway to the Grave and loved it!!! Oh Bones!

@Stella - I so want to read Touched by an Alien - it looks awesome and Master of None has gotten some great reviews! Embers is on my list too - and Immortals after dark is another series I need to start! I've read Briggs series and Armstrongs and loved them! Good choices!

OMG, you so need to start The Immortals After Dark Series... It's just... AMAZING! I also love everything by Gena Showalter, The Lords of The Underworld and Alien Huntress are my favorites. Did you liked the BDB books? You may like Lara Adrian Midnight Breed series too.

@Dani - IAD sounds like a great series - I really need to start it! I've only read one Showalter and need to start reading those too. I liked BDB but didn't want to just do reviews but now I'm struggling on how to sum up the awesomeness of BDB ;) I had to take a little BDB break though.. it's very intense and those lessers totally creep me out!!

Lilith Saintcrow's Dante Valentine and Jill Kismet series, and Julie Kenner's Blood Lily Chronicles.

@Bethany - good call with the Dante Valentine series - I just saw they're doing an omnibus re-issue of DV that looks great! I don't know if I can do Jill Kismet though- it's very dark and gruesome to me but good - maybe if I can get over my squeamishness I would like it. I do have Julie Kenner's first book in my tbr - I need to get started on that one!
